Blog Launched!

March 01, 2008

Finally, I've launched my blog on it's own server with it's blog engine. My old blog was on blogspot and I was unsatisfied with it so I decided to write my own blog engine in Rails and get it up. Yes, I know there are tons of blogging engines out there but I thought it'd be fun to write my own especially since it's not that complicated.

Anyway, welcome to my blog. Comments can be posted by anyone and don't require registration, the sidebar can be hidden via the hide link above it and it'll remember your preference as long as you don't clear your cookies.

The content of my blog posts will vary from completely random to programming related tidbits to occasional philosophical thoughts. The name (unbound imagination) has no direct correlation with the content, I just thought it sounds cool.

Also, you can do cool shit like syntax highlighting:

   1 def cool_shit
   2 puts "Yay Syntax Highlighting"
   3 end

Congrats on getting your blog up.

   1 100_000.times do |i|
   2 puts i
   3 end

just checking...

So now that you've written a full blog engine twice, once in PHP and once in Rails. How would you compare the two experiences? Which one was harder and which one was more fun?

Writing it in Rails was of course significantly more fun and much quicker. The end result was much better in Rails too. I don't think I'd ever go back to writing web applications in PHP.
